Live streaming has evolved dramatically since 2010, when Absolute Rentals made the pivot from feature film post-production—working on iconic titles like Independence Day, The Rock, Lost in Space, and Speed 2—into the world of live broadcast.
Absolute Rentals has been on the front lines ever since. In the beginning, it was all about NewTek TriCaster systems (and the classic Video Toaster lineage). At one point, we had 11 systems running constantly on rental. But technology never stands still. We made a major pivot into Ross Video workflows, and later transitioned to Blackmagic Design—hardware we still love and embrace today as an incredible industry workhorse.
However, our go-to solution that truly powers our most demanding productions today is vMix. Our custom vMix flypacks and mobile systems are exceptionally robust, built with the latest high-performance GPUs and super-fast computing architecture. We routinely deploy vMix not just as our master live switcher, but for advanced graphics, multi-channel encoding, and even instant replay. It has even evolved into our primary engine for LED wall playback, video clip management, and live scaling.
On a recent production, one of the most innovative workflows we implemented involved switching the entire show natively on Blackmagic hardware, while routing through vMix as a powerful downstream keyer for real-time graphics and lower thirds.
